I have been a working photographer for twenty years and for the last decade I've mainly specialized in portraits, working regularly for advertising and design agencies as well as mainstream and contract publishers in the UK and abroad. During that time I've photographed the famous and the infamous, the reticent and the extrovert, the difficult and the delightful. I've met and photographed over a thousand different people and struck up good working relationships with (almost) every one of them. Working with high profile subjects means being organised, being quick and often being able to make something out of very little. I've shot an international magazine cover in 30 seconds when that was all the time available and I've created strong interesting pictures in the most unpromising locations. I've shot pictures from the Arctic in Norway to the Cape in South Africa and in 35 other countries between. Whatever the situation, whoever the subject, wherever the location, I've probably had to sort out something similar somewhere before. Charles Best |
